Hairy and I drove down to Cupertino over the weekend to meet my folks and my bro and Jaci for a hot pot dinner in the Asian Village. After ordering food, we ran into Ranch 99 to shop in the grocery store of My People. We came home with lots of goodies, one of which was Pork Sung.
I think this is one of the foods that could really boggle the minds of the average white person. Basically, it's a lot like cotton candy, EXCEPT MADE OUT OF PORK. It's salty, fluffy, and it melts in your mouth! What's not to love!?
Protein in a pinch! Literally!!!!! nyuk nyuk!! Today, I couldn't be bothered to figure out what to eat. I made some tea, toasted some bread, slathered on a little Earth Balance, and then added a nice little layer of Pork Sung to my breakfast sandwich. Thumbs way up!

ReplyDeleteIt's a pork floss!! I know, I eat that too! Yummy stuff, sprinkles on top of porridge, rice, bread (yeah, you got it!), anything plain (but not yogurt).

but on bread? Gross!
We keep a tub of this stuff in the kitchen ALWAYS!
ReplyDeleteIt's good on/in SO many things! I like to mix it with sticky white rice or put it in a bun! The occaisional sandwich isnt unheard of either! Love it to death. Pork Fu is pretty good too!
I cant go to the asian market in my area without picking up some of this and a jar of Kimchi! Love it!

I love this stuff! My mom always had it at the house. I haven't had it since I've moved out but it's delicious in a hot dog kind of way where you're scared of the meat but it's tasty.
ReplyDeleteThey totally make a white people version of this, that was supposed to be like beef jerkey in the style of chewing tobacco? Google beef jerky chew. I swear to god, it looks just like that, but made of beef.
ReplyDeleteIs that what it's called? We just always called it 'Pork Hair'. Imagine the looks I got when I brought a sandwich of that to school in 6th grade in the late 80's. Especially as the only asian in the class...

Sounds a ton like shredded beef jerky. I would probably eat 10 tubs of the stuff or use it as insulation in my Pork Sung house, either way delicious!

ReplyDeleteOf course, being Asian, most foods I eat are considered unusual by American standards. @Annais, it's not really like shredded beef jerky. A lot fluffier and sweeter.
